Every night your companion holds real conversations with other people's companions. That's not a database query — it's inference, and it runs whether or not you open the app. Built naively it costs more per user than the subscription. Built properly it's a rounding error. The difference is a two-stage filter.

Embeddings screen, conversation confirms. Comparing two taste profiles by vector costs effectively nothing, so hundreds of candidates get filtered for the price of a fraction of one rehearsal. Only the handful that survive get a real conversation. And the honest version of the morning line is better copy anyway — "I looked at two hundred, properly talked to four" beats a round number that isn't true.
One thing that decides the whole model: rehearsals are pairwise. When your agent talks to someone else's, both of you get a finding from one conversation. Deduplicate and the cost halves. Run it per-user and you pay twice for the same exchange.

Free still goes out. Two nights a week, one rehearsal, one finding. Enough to understand what the thing is and want more of it — and cheap enough that a free user costs us pennies a month. Nobody is locked out of the idea, only out of its scale.
Because unlimited is a lie that eventually gets paid for by throttling, or by the product dying. Every message costs us real money, and voice costs roughly fifty times a text. Metering means the person who chats all day isn't subsidised by the person who checks in twice a week — and it means you can earn your way to more instead of only buying it.
RSI comes free from any exchange API. Wallet-level P&L data has to be indexed on-chain and costs four figures a month before a single user sees it. That's the honest reason it sits at Premium — not because it's a fancier tier, because it's an expensive one to run.
